Abstract

The aim of this entry is to elucidate the role of creativity in government. Governments need to invest in creativity research for many reasons, but perhaps the most important reason is to learn how to link research to practice. This entry is divided into five sections (a) discussing individual and organizational creativity, (b) comparing creativity in the public and private sectors, (c) supporting creativity in k-12 education, (d), discussing environmental factors that encourage creativity in the government, and (e) supporting creativity research. The final part of this article concludes by offering a definition for the term “creative government.”
